You do not really know them…

Animals. We have plenty here on the farm. Before moving here to the farm I have never been around such a variety of animals: chickens, ducks, geese, horses, cats, dogs, parrots etc. It has been interesting thus far to be around them.

shot_1322837227124I always had the idea that once you see one horse you have seen them all - NOT true. We have 9 horses here and none of them are the same. They all have a uniqueness about them and once you are around them and observe them more closely for a while, you can clearly see this for yourself. Humans have become so disconnected from nature and the animals.

The same can be said for the cats and the dogs. We have many dogs and cats and all of them are different and none are the same. The parrots as well and even the chickens and ducks. I have never been around so many animals and just assumed that they are "just animals", it was only when I was here on the farm living with animals that I had the opportunity to realize just how incorrect I was with my beliefs and ideas about animals. Unless you have actually worked with animals, you really do not know anything about them.

Another thing I did not know about horses. I take care of Grootman (picture ) and what i have found is that he is a reflection of me - what I see in him is me. Horses do that - they reflect who you are and within this there is much you can learn about yourself. Grootman has taught me a lot about myself. Horses also like testing your directive principle and are extremely sneaky and manipulative to do this( yes, horses manipulate and are very sneaky). What I mean with Directive principle is that the horse wants to know if he can trust you - trust that you are able to lead effectively. If they find you cannot lead/are the directive principle then they themselves take the role by pushing you, nudging you, ignoring you and in some extreme cases kick and bite you to leave them alone.

The farm was also the first time I had the opportunity to raise a dog by myself. With Peoper( in peopsmall picture) it has been interesting. When I first got her she was sleeping on my lap in the car and I experienced myself getting nauseous. I really had to concentrate on my breathing so that I do not puke all over the car. As I was sitting there looking at her on my lap all cute I asked myself “why Am I nauseous?” Nausea is related to fear and what i have found is a fear of raising her. I feared all the bad things that could happen to her - that I will form a connection and feared that she might die and I would have to go through that again. I was basically fearing what happened to Timeless(my precious dog who had hip-dysplasia). Also that I would not be good enough to raise her and all kinds of shit. I stopped the fears and moved on. She is almost two years old now and has a very full, joyous expression. In the end I can now clearly see that my fears were not real and simply useless self judgements. Another fun fact is that we both share the same birthday.

So humans have a warped idea about animals and are blinded from seeing who they really are. We do not see who animals are, we do not make the effort to get to know them. They are alive and each have their own self-expression and they express it to the fullest. There are so many of them on our planet , but instead of living with them, getting to know them we destroy and kill in the name of profit and greed and that has to stop. Things you Might not know about Horses

My whole life I have never had any experience with horses. I only ever had dogs and cats. I have been around horses now the past 4 years. In the beginning when I started working with horses It was a whole new experience. They are amazing and cunning beings, very sneaky sometimes.

One thing I never new was that horses lie. Yes - they lie and manipulate sometimes. When I exercised Grootman (horse name) he would fake being tired or have no energy just to not exercise anymore. I never knew they do that.shot_1322837227124

It has been a awesome learning curve  - horses can teach you allot about yourself. They are very physical observing beings. They can sum you up - see all of you before you even get close. They are far more aware of you that you are about yourself.

A few days ago we had one of our horses die - Titan. Titan and Grootman were best friends - you would always se those two together in the fields. I did not know horses form close bonds with each other. On Friday we buried Titan And that afternoon when the horses came back to the stables Grootman started showing symptoms of severe colic. He was crying out all the time for his friend Titan, because he cannot see him anywhere. Everybody gathered around as support for Grootman

We got the Vet out when we first saw what was happening to him. He was basically stressing about not seeing Titan around anymore which caused him to have big problems with his digestive system.

Long story short - the vet did everything she could, but Grootman did not respond to the medicine. He was in extreme pain when the pain killers wore off. The Vet was here from about 6 at night till twelve. The only options we had was to wait till he sorts it our himself and if he does not we will have to put him down.

shot_1322837220790 She left  us enough pain killer injections to help him through the night if needed. Rozelle and I stayed up with him at the stables all night and everybody on the farm helped in keeping an eye on him for when he starts feeling pain again. Which was the next morning where he relapsed again. We gave him painkillers again. From that moment on we pulled through and made it. He is fine now again. All of this was triggered, because he missed his friend Titan. Proof that horses also feel for those who did not know.

He went through allot that night and day - he had to make some hard choices in order to pull through.

to be continued.

Day 110 - Stress And Storms

SNF0715GXZ_482615aA few days ago we had another Storm. Now when the previous storm hit i noticed that I became very anxious and start to stress out. I worry about what damage can occur with this storm. Specifically our dam wall and river wall. overtime it rains allot out river flows - the more rain the more powerful it flows. I do this every time a storm hits - and lately there has been allot of storms.

So i fear that the  the heavy rain will cause the river to flood and wash away our wall which will cause allot of damage if it does. The point i realize within this is that it doesn't’’ matter if I stress or not - it will not change a thing. It is to be aware of the point and to make all the precautions to make sure that the wall doesn't’ break.

I forgive myself that I have accepted and allowed myself to become anxious whenever a storm hits

I forgive myself that I have accepted and allowed myself to start to stress out during the storm, because there is no way for me to check the damage while the storm is here

I forgive myself that I have accepted and allowed myself to fear that the river wall or dam wall broke and that its causing major damage along the way  even though I have no way of knowing yet

I forgive myself that I have accepted and allowed myself to when a storm hits to fear the worst

I forgive myself that I have accepted and allowed myself to when A storm hit during the day close to horses time to fear we will have to fetch them while the storm is still going.and fear being hit by lighting

I forgive myself that I have accepted and allowed myself to in this stress become frustrated and on edge where I will snap at others

I commit myself to not/sstorms top stress and not/stop be anxious when there  is a big storm, but to instead breathe through it and enjoy the show.

I commit myself to stop expecting the worst when there is a big storm - instead I realize there is nothing i can do about it while its storming

I commit myself to stop the fear that something bad might happen like the river wall breaking - instead i breathe, inspect after the storm and do what's necessary to make sure the wall holds strong in the future so that I will have no excuse to worry.

I commit myself to stop the fear of pain of being hit by lighting or that the horses will freak out and become dangerous to walk them back in a storm - instead I make sure we get the horses before a storm hits -

if it does and we have to walk them in the middle of a storm i then stop my fear and stay calm and realize that my fear of being hit wont make the lighting not hit me.
