Day 268 - Are Fireworks Really worth All of this:

• In 2012, U.S. hospital emergency rooms treated an estimated 8,700 people for fireworks related injuries; 55% of 2012 emergency room fireworks-related injuries were to the extremities and 31% were to the head.

When I was a kid I absolutely loved fireworks. Load bangs and rockets and different colors – what kid wouldn’t like to set off some fireworks? I was never allowed to light them without supervision and on the rare occasions that we did light them we had to do it in an open field far away from animals. Looking back at it now, even though we did it far away from houses, it would still have been load for animals.

This did not go on for too long, eventually the danger of fireworks became clear and my parents chose to not do it anymore. This was the right thing to do and still is.

Currently I live in an environment where there are lots of different animals ranging from dogs and cats to various other wildlife, and fireworks would be absolutely devastating to these animals. So even though It would be cool and fun to set some off I simply cannot, because we have to consider those we share this living space with.

In the Cities this is a big problem for animal lovers. When the fireworks go off the pets are terrified. I have seen and heard horrific stories of pets running away never to return. Some pets actually run through glass doors or get stuck trying to push through fences. Some even rip their nails off trying to get away by digging through concrete.

Horror stories aside, we should all consider whether it’s worth it to light fireworks for the sake of personal enjoyment when it has such unfortunate consequences. Maybe it would be better to have a designated area where there are no animals around where people can go light fireworks – that would be far more beneficial than having these poor animals in terror in the festive seasons.

Will there be an Ark to save us?

 

I watched the movie “Noah” the other day. The main story line is basically based on Noah in the bible where the creator tells Noah to build a giant ark in order to save the animal kingdom from a worldwide flood that will kill every human expect Noah and his family.

The reason for this flood is to wipe out all the “wickedness” and “evil” that is humanity in order to cleanse the earth. In the movie it portrays humans and human nature as having a complete disregard for the earth. The earth got to a state where most of the land was barren and finding sustenance was very difficult due to how humans have exploited the earth. Sound familiar?

What I did find interesting in this movie is that Noah realized that humanity is the problem. That before humans roamed the earth nature was in balance – no exploitation, no over fishing, no deforesting, etc. And ever since humans came along that is when things started to go wrong with the earth. He also saw that this “evil” is in all humans – in himself and his family included is the potential for greed, murder, exploitation etc., so he came to the conclusion that in order to save the planet humans must cease to exist.

Now, if we look at the world today and the state it’s in – if we do nothing to change our nature then the outcome is pretty clear: We are going destroy this planet. Unfortunately there will be no ark for the animals this time, no flood to kill us all and save the animals. The way things are going we will kill every living being on this planet (maybe not the cockroaches). There is no all mighty creator that will help us through this.

Another point the movie shows is that every human has the potential for “goodness”, kindness, compassion and to be caring. Sure we have the potential to change our ways and actually be considerate human beings, but that means actually changing our nature as who we are and accepted ourselves to be.

So what will we choose?

A Solution for Animal rights

There are Charities that focus on caring for animals. They also take animals out of abusive situations like for example in the news the other day there were horses found starving on a farm and some found dead so they took them out of that situation to take of them. This is cool that they were able to assist those horses. There are many such situations out there and many animals suffer. 

Unfortunately the reason Charities exist is not cool. The reason why charities exist is because there is a problem with this world and system we live in. People cannot afford food and so charities are there to feed them. People cannot afford to take care of animals and so th

ere are charities to take care of the animals. There is a pattern here – charities are band aids, the cleanup crew. It is like having a bucket that is overflowing with water and all you do is mop up the water – you keep mopping up the water, but the water keeps on coming – instead of getting to the root of the problem which is closing the tap to stop the water.

You will find countless animals that are neglected in poor countries/areas which makes sense, because how are you going to feed a dog when you can’t even feed yourself? The problem with animal rights is that human rights do not exist. Food and water should be a human right – effective housing should be a human right, but it is not. People basic needs are not met and the animals suffer along with the humans. 

That is why Basic Income Guaranteed would benefit not only the humans, but the animals as well. There are people who would really like and have a passion to work with animals, but they can’t support themselves. If they had their basic needs met then they would go for it, go work with animals. Human rights and animal rights are linked. Then you will see an increase in people that work with animals. 

So, if you support animals and would like to end their suffering and help them then the Basic Income Guaranteed is the solution for this.  

People should not have animals if they cannot take care of them

 

 

I always had a pet dog. I grew up with always having a dog. I loved my pets treated them with respect and took care of them. We lived near the ocean and just before the beach there was a big pond area and I used to play there allot (Back then it was still safe to play in a pond ). We used to look for tadpoles and frogs, because they were fascinating – we went into the pond every day and watched the growth process of the tadpoles. We would see how the legs started to form and eventually they turned to frogs and it was really cool.

I remember some kids that would take the poor tadpoles and squash them. This was utterly disturbing to me and my friends. Unfortunately there are some kids that have a complete disregard for nature. How and why is that kid so different than I was?

I was taught to take care of animals and to treat them right. The other kid was not. It is the responsibility of the parents to teach children how to take care of animals, but often the parents do not even no how and so nature suffers.

Then you have people who have pets, but do not take care of them. They do not give the animal the proper care it needs. This can simply be a disregard for life and deliberate abuse or they do not know how – the point remains that nobody should have access to any animal unless they can effectively take care of it or have the necessary respect for them.

Unfortunately animals are regarded as not really important. Humans believe they superior and animals are just animals. Which is not true. This belief is what is causing major destruction in nature and the extinction and abuse of animals. That kid who squished tadpoles for fun will grow up never considering nature.

This should be one of the fundamental education of a child – how to care and treat animals. Animals are a part of our lives - We share this planet with them. When it is proven that a person can take care of the particular pet it wants only then should they be able to have a pet. This is how it should be and will stop animal abuse.

You do not really know them…

 

 

Animals. We have plenty here on the farm. Before moving here to the farm I have never been around such a variety of animals: chickens, ducks, geese, horses, cats, dogs, parrots etc. It has been interesting thus far to be around them.

I always had the idea that once you see one horse you have seen them all - NOT true. We have 9 horses here and none of them are the same. They all have a uniqueness about them and once you are around them and observe them more closely for a while, you can clearly see this for yourself. Humans have become so disconnected from nature and the animals.

The same can be said for the cats and the dogs. We have many dogs and cats and all of them are different and none are the same. The parrots as well and even the chickens and ducks. I have never been around so many animals and just assumed that they are "just animals", it was only when I was here on the farm living with animals that I had the opportunity to realize just how incorrect I was with my beliefs and ideas about animals. Unless you have actually worked with animals, you really do not know anything about them.

Another thing I did not know about horses. I take care of Grootman (picture ) and what i have found is that he is a reflection of me - what I see in him is me. Horses do that - they reflect who you are and within this there is much you can learn about yourself. Grootman has taught me a lot about myself. Horses also like testing your directive principle and are extremely sneaky and manipulative to do this( yes, horses manipulate and are very sneaky). What I mean with Directive principle is that the horse wants to know if he can trust you - trust that you are able to lead effectively. If they find you cannot lead/are the directive principle then they themselves take the role by pushing you, nudging you, ignoring you and in some extreme cases kick and bite you to leave them alone. 

The farm was also the first time I had the opportunity to raise a dog by myself. With Peoper( in picture) it has been interesting. When I first got her she was sleeping on my lap in the car and I experienced myself getting nauseous. I really had to concentrate on my breathing so that I do not puke all over the car. As I was sitting there looking at her on my lap all cute I asked myself “why Am I nauseous?” Nausea is related to fear and what i have found is a fear of raising her. I feared all the bad things that could happen to her - that I will form a connection and feared that she might die and I would have to go through that again. I was basically fearing what happened to Timeless(my precious dog who had hip-dysplasia). Also that I would not be good enough to raise her and all kinds of shit. I stopped the fears and moved on. She is almost two years old now and has a very full, joyous expression. In the end I can now clearly see that my fears were not real and simply useless self judgements. Another fun fact is that we both share the same birthday.

So humans have a warped idea about animals and are blinded from seeing who they really are. We do not see who animals are, we do not make the effort to get to know them. They are alive and each have their own self-expression and they express it to the fullest. There are so many of them on our planet , but instead of living with them, getting to know them we destroy and kill in the name of profit and greed and that has to stop.
